Since 1350…

The village that comes with the venue.

At the top of Walton, on its highest ground, stands St Peter’s — the village’s medieval church, seven centuries old and still lit for weddings, christenings and quiet goodbyes. The service is arranged with the parish; we’ll happily make the introduction.

And that’s the thing about celebrating here: everything is two minutes from everything else. The vows at the top of the lane. The party at the hall. The Sunday roast at the pub. The bed above it. No convoys, no taxis at midnight — just one small Yorkshire village, strung together on foot.

The big one

The village wedding, done over a weekend.

This is what Walton does best — and why couples pick a village over a hotel. Three venues within a two-minute walk, one kitchen running the lot, and beds a few steps away when the music stops.

Friday

The welcome.

Family and the wedding party arrive, check into the apartments at the pub, and settle in over a relaxed welcome supper at The Fox.

Saturday

The day itself.

Ceremony at St Peter’s at the top of the village. A walk down the lane to the hall — or a marquee on the lawn — for the wedding breakfast, speeches and dancing, all catered and staffed by The Fox.

Sunday

The long goodbye.

No mad dash home. A proper Yorkshire Sunday lunch at the pub with everyone who stayed, before the last of the confetti blows away.

All weekend

Beds at the pub.

The Ainsty — a two-bedroom apartment above the pub — sleeps four. The Smiddy and The Rudgate, one-bedroom apartments in the pub grounds, sleep two each as they open (The Smiddy from December). See the rooms.

Beyond the village

Your venue? We’ll bring The Fox.

Marquee in a field, a barn, the office, your own back garden — our kitchen and a fully stocked, staffed bar travel. The same seasonal Yorkshire menus and the same team, wherever you’re celebrating.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book?

For full venue hire or the village hall, we recommend at least 4–6 weeks notice. Semi-private dining can often be arranged with shorter notice. Weddings — especially multi-day ones involving the church — are best started several months out.

Can we hire the whole pub?

Yes — on Mondays and Tuesdays, when we're normally closed, the whole pub is yours for up to 60 guests. Exclusive use, your own team, flexible timings. Other days by arrangement.

How many guests can you take?

In the pub: up to 30 in a reserved area most days, or up to 60 with exclusive use on Mondays and Tuesdays. At Walton Village Hall: 60 seated or 100 standing, any day of the week — and for bigger days still, a marquee on the hall's lawn takes you past 100 (at additional cost). We'll steer you to the right fit when you enquire.

Is there a minimum spend?

For full venue hire, yes — this varies depending on the day and time. Semi-private dining has a lower minimum spend, and there's no room fee with it. We'll discuss this when you enquire.

How does village hall booking work?

Pick a free date on the calendar above and send a request. We confirm the date with the hall — usually within 2 working days — then come back to you with a proposal. Nothing is charged until everything's agreed. Hall dates cancelled more than 8 weeks ahead are refunded in full; 18th and 21st birthday parties carry a £200 returnable bond.

Can you help with a church wedding or christening?

Yes. St Peter's — Walton's medieval church — sits at the top of the village, two minutes from both the pub and the hall. The service itself is arranged with the parish (we'll happily put you in touch), and we look after everything around it: the reception, the catering, the bar and the beds.

Do you do kids' parties?

Gladly. The village hall is made for them — space to run about, a playground right next door, and party food from The Fox's kitchen. Pick a date on the calendar above and tell us the age and numbers.

Can you cater an event at our own venue?

Yes — our kitchen travels. We cater private events at external venues across Yorkshire, from marquees and barns to offices and gardens, and we can bring a fully stocked, staffed bar with us. Tell us the venue and the occasion and we'll build a proposal around it.

Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Absolutely. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and most other dietary needs. Just let us know when planning your menu.

Can we bring a cake?

Yes, you're welcome to bring your own celebration cake. We'll store it and serve it as part of your event. No cakeage charge.

Is there step-free access?

Yes, we have step-free access to the main dining area and accessible facilities. Walton Village Hall is also wheelchair-accessible with an accessible toilet.
